The United States of America, 2012: The imprisoned population is so vast that private companies are hired. In Terminal Island Prison, "Death Race", a gladiator-like fight to the finish competition is held to raise funds.

The film begins six years later by showing a race near its end. Machine Gun Joe (Tyrese Gibson) and a famous masked driver known as Frankenstein (original Death Race 2000 star David Carradine) engage in a bloody battle in which Frankenstein wins, but at the cost of heavy injuries and eventually death. Six months later, Jensen Ames (Jason Statham), an ex-racecar driver, is framed for his wife's murder. Ames is sent to Terminal Island Prison where he immediately becomes enemies with an Aryan brotherhood gang, led by Pachenko (Max Ryan). He is taken to Hennessey (Joan Allen) who tells him that the gang will kill him without her help. Thus he is coerced by the warden to become the new driver of late Frankenstein's car. The warden tells Ames that she knows about his baby daughter left in foster care. She also states that prisoners are freed upon winning five Death Races, but since the legendary Frankenstein had 4 wins at the time of his death, he would only require a single win. He agrees to race.

"Death Race" consists of three different stages. The first stage is an elimination round with the sole goal being to come out alive and to eliminate as much of the competition as possible. In each race, there are three activation switches, Swords, Shields, and Death Heads. These power-ups are in the form of lights on the ground that are activated when passed over by a car. Swords activate offensive weapons, shields activate defensive weapons, and death heads activate a spiked wall that impales the car and the racers inside. The wall then goes back into the ground, killing anyone inside. In the first race, Grimm is killed by Joe by being struck as a"pedestrian", resulting in a gruesome "head-exploding" shot. Jensen survives the race, killing one racer but coming in last place. During the second race, the goal is again to survive. Hennessey plots against Frankenstein, hoping to use his popularity to keep ratings up. The race starts and much to the dismay of the racers and crews a gigantic semi-truck armed with a tank turret, called the Dreadnought is released. After killing multiple racers, the truck is destroyed when Joe and Ames team up to activate a Death Head that destroys the Dreadnought.

In the third stage, Joe and Ames must race one final time to the winner. Prior to the race Hennessey has a bomb planted under Frankenstein's car, and then manipulates the race to favor Joe. However, her plans are ruined when Joe and Ames escape. Hennessey sends all her police force in pursuit and succeeds in capturing Frankenstein's car. However, Ames had escaped from his car leaving his navigator, Elizabeth, dressed up in his costume. Joe and Ames hitch a ride and escape to Miami. Meanwhile, using the bomb from Frankenstein's car, Coach kills both Ulrich and the warden. Six months later, Ames has his daughter back and Joe is working on living a clean life free of crime. As the two work on a car in their new home, a car pulls up and Elizabeth steps out to join the two.

Saw V synopsis

Seth Baxter (Joris Jarsky), a convicted murderer who was released early from prison on a technicality, is chained to a table beneath a pendulum blade. A videotaped message informs him that in order to survive, he must crush his hands by putting them into two presses and pushing the buttons inside. Even though he does so, the pendulum swings down and slices him in half. The fact that the trap was inescapable marks it as a creation of someone other than JigsawTobin Bell). (

In a scene from the end of Saw IV, Agent Peter Strahm (Scott Patterson) enters the room where Jigsaw died and shoots Jeff Reinhart (Angus Macfadyen) dead in self-defense. He then looks around and
discovers the bodies of Jigsaw and Amanda Young. It is at this time that he hears the door slam shut, and he is locked in by Lieutenant Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor). Strahm soon finds a hidden door that leads into a passage. Here a microcassette recording urges him not to proceed any further; ignoring it, he moves down the passage and is attacked by a figure in a pig mask.

When Strahm wakes up, he discovers that his head has been sealed in a box, which quickly begins to fill with water. A self-administered tracheotomy using a pen keeps him breathing until the police arrive at the Gideon meatpacking plant. Hoffman emerges, carrying Jeff's daughter Corbett (Niamh Wilson), and claims that he saved her and that no one else inside survived. He then sees Strahm being brought out alive as well. Shortly afterward, the chief of police announces an end to the Jigsaw murders and congratulates Hoffman for closing the cases.

Jill Tuck (Betsy Russell), John Kramer's ex-wife, receives a videotape and a box from his lawyer. On the tape, John tells her that the items in the box are of "grave importance" and that she will know what to do with them. After looking inside, she takes the box and hurries away without revealing its contents.

Strahm learns that Agent Lindsey Perez (Athena Karkanis) died of the wounds she suffered in Saw IV, and that the last thing she said was Hoffman's name. He confronts Hoffman with this fact, further unsettling him. Gathering up all the files on Jigsaw’s victims, Strahm revisits some of the crime scenes and pieces together Hoffman's involvement. Seth had murdered Hoffman's sister, so Hoffman set up the inescapable pendulum trap in revenge. Flashbacks reveal that Jigsaw used his knowledge of these events to blackmail Hoffman into becoming his accomplice. The two worked together to capture Paul Stallberg (Mike Butters) for the razor wire trap in Saw, set up the nerve gas house in Saw II, and discussed plans before Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith) brought Lynn Denlon (Bahar Soomekh) to Jigsaw's bedside in Saw III.

Meanwhile, in a sewer, five people, Ashley, Charles, Brit, Mallick, and Luba, wake up in a trap in which collars are locked around their necks, strung on a cable connected to a set of guillotineGreg Bryk) rushes to get his key and Charles (Carlo Rota) attempts to stop him, a one-minute countdown starts as everyone else is dragged toward the blades. All but Ashley (Laura Gordon) are able to get their keys and free themselves in time; she is decapitated when the collars are automatically pulled back to the wall and into the blades.

In the next room, the four survivors must break jars hanging from the ceiling and find three keys to shelters that can protect them when the bombs in the room explode. Charles attacks Mallick and takes a key from him, but Luba (Meagan Good) knocks Charles down in turn and gives the key back to Mallick. Luba, Brit (Julie Benz), and Mallick unlock and enter the shelters, leaving Charles to die in the explosion.

The third room requires five electrical cables to be connected to a bathtub full of water in order to unlock the door (set to a countdown timer), but they are all too short to reach it. Luba knocks Mallick into the tub, intending to use him to complete the circuits, whereupon Brit fatally stabs her in the neck. By throwing her body in the tub and hooking all the cables to it, Brit and Mallick get the door open.

In the fourth and final room, the exit door can only be opened by filling a beaker with ten pints of blood, to be obtained by the captives putting their arms into a box fitted with circular saws. Here, noticing five holes in the box for their arms, Brit realizes that the five of them were meant to work together so that they could all survive to this point. With no other options, she and Mallick begin sawing their arms to fill the beaker themselves.

While these games are playing out, Hoffman steals Strahm’s cell phone and uses it to make Strahm’s boss, Dan Erickson (Mark Rolston), think that Strahm is Jigsaw's accomplice. He plants the phone and Erickson's own personnel file outside the exit from the fourth room, and Erickson arrives here just as Brit and Mallick get the door open. Both pass out from blood loss as Erickson calls for backup; he then puts out an all-points bulletin for Strahm's arrest.

Strahm’s investigation brings him to a small underground room that contains a transparent box full of broken glass. A recorder inside the box delivers a message from Hoffman: Strahm will have to trust him and get in the box if he wants to survive. Instead, Strahm stops the tape short, hides in a corner, and ambushes Hoffman when he enters the room, eventually throwing him into the box and closing it. Strahm then plays the remainder of the tape, learning that if he did not comply, he would die and "simply vanish," with Hoffman's legacy becoming his own in the process. The door to the room closes and locks as the box lowers Hoffman safely beneath the floor, while the walls start to slowly close in, crushing Strahm to death.

The Tale of Despereaux

Synopsis

The Tale of Despereaux is told in four separate stories called "books". Book the First tells of Despereaux's beginning, Book the Second tells of Chiaroscuro, and Book the Third is about Miggory Sow. All the characters are brought together in Book the Fourth.

Chiaroscuro

Set before the birth of Despereaux, an innocent rat named Chiaroscuro ("Roscuro" for short), is eating the rope at Gregory's ankle. Gregory catches Roscuro and burns his whiskers with a match. However, Roscuro is entranced by the light from the match and declares that goodness and light is the meaning of life, but another rat, named Botticelli Romorso, puts Roscuro into a trance by swinging a locket in front of his eyes.

Botticelli tells Roscuro that his only purpose as a rat is to torture prisoners by pretending to be their friends only to take away the most important thing from them. Roscuro then meets a prisoner guilty of cow theft. The only thing the prisoner has with him is a red tablecloth that he got when he traded his own daughter for it along with a hen and some cigarettes. Roscuro then takes the tablecloth from the prisoner leaving him to suffer without it, but is dissapointed decides that the concept of torturing a prisoner is one he strongly dislikes.

Defying Botticelli, Roscuro begins to explore the castle's upstairs, where the light is. While there, the light loving rat, entranced by the royal family's grandeur, climbs a chandelier during dinner and is seen by Princess Pea. She calls out to everyone to take notice that it startles Roscuro and causes him to accidentally fall into the Queen's soup tureen, causing her to have a heart attack and die. Roscuro escapes back to the dungeon along with the Queen's soup spoon. Heartbroken, he then vows revenge on the Pea for causing the event to happen and forcing him back underground. The grief-stricken king outlaws soup throughout the Kingdom of Dor and orders for all rats to be hunted down and killed.

Gor! The Tale of Miggery Sow

Set many years before Despereaux and Chiaroscuro, a six-year-old girl named Miggery "Mig" Sow witnesses the death of her ill mother. Afterwards, Mig is sold to work by her father for some cigarettes, a hen, and a red tablecloth to a man Mig calls "Uncle". Uncle occasionally beats Mig over her ears until she goes slightly deaf and their appearance looks like cauliflower. On Mig's seventh birthday, she sees the Princess Pea riding by on horseback with her company. The Pea waves at Mig, but Mig is too surprised to wave back. When Mig does wave back, the Pea and company are already too far away. It is then that Mig decides that she too wants to be a princess. Five years pass until the day that the king bans soup and the king's guards arrive at Uncle's house to take away bowls and spoons. They also take Mig away from Uncle because slavery is illegal too.

Mig is then set to work in the castle where she gains a lot of weight and begins to become lazy during her chores. One day, Mig is sent up to the Pea's room to deliver a red colored spool of thread. She gets distracted in conversation with the Pea that she is then assigned to work in the kitchen under a plump female chef named Cook. Mig is sent to the dungeons to deliver Gregory his meal and, while there, she meets Roscuro and tells him that her greatest wish is to become a princess. Roscuro plans to make Mig suffer into hearing what she wants and manipulates Mig into granting her wish if she helps him kidnap the Pea to make her become a servant girl so Mig can become a princess.

Recalled to the Light

Despereaux escapes the dungeons on the empty tray of Gregory's that Mig brings back to the kitchen, and overheard her conversation with Roscuro. However, Despereaux is soon discovered by Mig and Cook and, as he is attempting to flee, Mig chops off Despereaux's tail with a knife. Despereaux then spends the night in pain, sleeping on a sack of flour. Meanwhile, Roscuro leads Mig to Princess Pea's room with a knife, and the two kidnapp the Pea and lead her to the dungeon.

The next morning, the castle is in a panic over the missing Princess. Guards are sent to search the dungeon, only to find Gregory dead from being lost in the dark. Despereaux is then seen by the mouse council who mistake him for a ghost because he is covered in flour. Despereaux forgives Lester for sentencing him to the dungeon and goes on to seek the King. Despereaux tells the King that he knows that Pea is in the dungeon, but the King refuses to believe him because Despereaux is a rodent, similar to a rat.

Despereaux then goes to Hovis, who gives him the entire spool of red thread and a sewing needle for his quest to the dungeons. Despereaux cuts back through the kitchen only to see Cook making soup. However, Cook is delighted to see Despereaux because he is a mouse and not a castle guard. She gives Despereaux some soup to eat and he then makes his way to the dungeons. While there, Despereaux meets Botticelli, who tells him that he will lead Despereaux to the Pea, however, this is only an act, to make Despereux suffer.

Mig then learns that Roscuro tricked her into helping him kidnap the Pea, and that Mig will never be a princess. Roscuro plans for the Pea to remain locked in the dungeons, so that he can marvel over her brightly colored dress, but Despereaux arrives and Mig chops Roscuro's tail off with the knife. However, many rats arrive on the scene because they followed the smell of Despereaux, and the soup he recently ate. Despereaux threatens to kill Roscuro with the sewing needle, who then begins crying. The Pea offers to Roscuro that if he lets her go, she will treat him with some soup, to which Roscuro agrees. Botticelli and the other rats are disgusted by the happiness of all that is happening that they all return into the darkness.

Despereaux and the Pea become close friends. Roscuro is allowed access into the upstairs of the castle, and reunites the freed dungeon prisoner with his daughter, Mig, who is seen as a princess by him. Roscuro, Mig, the King, the Pea, and Despereaux all join together for soup, as the mice watch in amazement.


A Mouse Is Born

In a castle, a tiny mouse, named Despereaux Tilling, is born to his parents Lester and Antoinette Tilling. He is the only mouse to survive his birth in his mother's litter and is born with huge ears and with open eyes. One day, Despereaux and his sister, Merlot, find a book to eat, but Despereaux instead begins to read the words of the story about a knight saving a princess. Then, Despereaux hears music and follows it to the bedroom of the Princess Pea where her father, the King, is playing guitar for her. Despereaux falls in love with the Pea causing him to go and speak to her. This event is witnessed by Furlough who then tells his parents and the mouse council. Despereaux is brought to trial before the mouse council and sentenced to the dungeon which is filled with rats. A red colored thread is placed around Despereaux's neck by the mouse threadmaster, named Hovis. However, Hovis encourages Despereaux to be brave for the Princess. Despereaux is then brought to the dungeon where he finds a long rope tied to the ankle of the castle jailer, named Gregory. Gregory protects Despereaux from the rats in return that Despereaux tells him a story.

Yesman synopsis

Los Angeles bank employee Carl Allen (Jim Carrey) has become withdrawn and depressed since his divorce from ex-wife Stephanie (Molly Sims). Routinely ignoring his friends, he has grown used to spending his spare time watching DVDs alone in his apartment, and has developed a negative outlook on life. But when a friend persuades him to attend the "Yes!" motivational seminar, inspirational guru Terrence Bundley (Terence Stamp) publicly browbeats him into making a covenant with himself. Carl reluctantly promises to stop being a "No Man" and vows to answer "Yes!" to every opportunity, request or invitation that presents itself thereafter.

After the seminar, saying "yes" to a homeless man's requests only leaves Carl stranded in Elysian Park with his phone battery dead, no money, and his gas tank empty. Disillusioned, he hikes to a gas station, cursing himself for being so credulous and gullible. But at the gas station he meets Allison (Zooey Deschanel), an eccentric young woman who is refueling her scooter. She gives him a hair-raising ride back to his car, and spontaneously kisses him before she rides off.


After this positive experience, Carl adopts a positive mentality and seizes every opportunity that comes his way. He takes flying lessons, attends Korean language classes, learns to play the guitar and even goes as far as to respond "yes" when he gets a pop-up ad on his computer, causing him to join a Persian dating website. Saying "yes" constantly works to Carl's advantage. After accepting concert tickets from a promoter whom he has previously ignored, he sees an idiosyncratic band whose lead singer turns out to be Allison. He is charmed by her quirkiness; she is charmed by his spontaneity; and the two begin dating. He earns a promotion at work after his many approved loans open new territory for the bank in the area of microcredit. Making use of his guitar lessons, he wins public acclaim by playing Third Eye Blind's song "Jumper" to persuade a man (Luis Guzman) not to commit suicide by jumping off a ledge.

As their relationship blossoms, Carl and Allison meet at the airport for a spontaneous weekend excursion. Having decided to take the first plane out of town, no matter where its destination, they end up in Lincoln, Nebraska, where they explore the Frank H. Woods Telephone Museum, attend a college football game, and go skeet shooting. As they shelter from the rain in an isolated barn, Allison asks Carl to move in with her. He hesitantly agrees. But while checking in for the return flight, Carl is detained by FBI agents, who have profiled him as potential terrorist because he has taken flying lessons, studied Korean, approved a loan to a fertilizer company, met an Iranian mail-order bride, and bought plane tickets at the last minute.

Carl's lawyer and best friend Pete travels to Nebraska to explain Carl's odd habits, lessons, and decisions. As she finds out about Carl's motivational covenant, Allison begins to doubt whether his commitment to her was ever sincere. Deciding that she can no longer trust a man who is obliged always to respond in the affirmative, regardless of his true feelings, Allison leaves Carl at the airport and refuses to return his phone calls.

Soon afterward, Carl receives a tearful phone call from his ex-wife Stephanie, whose new partner has walked out on her. When Carl goes to Stephanie's apartment to comfort her, she kisses him passionately and asks whether they can get back together. After Carl emphatically says "no," his luck takes a turn for the worse. The elevator in which he tries to leave Stephanie's building almost snaps free of its cable, a black cat crosses his path, and his car gets clamped and towed.

Carl goes to the convention center where the "Yes!" seminar is held, and hides in the backseat of Bundley's convertible so that he can beg to be released from the covenant. Carl emerges as Bundley drives off, and the startled Bundley collides with an oncoming vehicle. The two are taken to hospital. After Carl recovers consciousness, an irate Bundley tells Carl that there was no "covenant." The point was merely to open Carl's mind to other possibilities, not to take away his ability to say "no" if he needed to.

Freed from this restraint, Carl finds Alison and admits that he does not want to move in with her just yet, but tells her that he genuinely loves and wants her—and has not been with her just because he has been compelled to say "yes". The couple kiss passionately.

At the end of the movie, Carl and Allison are seen donating a truckload of clothes to a local homeless shelter. Cutting to the scene of the "Yes!" seminar, Bundley is seen walking onstage to several hundred naked audience members. It is implied that the participants have said "Yes!" to donating their clothes to charity.

IP MAN synopsis

Summary

In the 1930s, Foshan thrives as the hub of Chinese martial arts, with various sects actively recruiting disciples and competing against each other to prove their strengths. Well known throughout Foshan for his martial arts skills is Ip Man, who is an expert in Wing Chun. While Ip Man is an accomplished martial artist, he is unassuming and keeps a low profile. At the same time he doesn't run any martial arts school, nor accept students. He only stays at home, quietly sparring with his compatriots in friendly competitions, swapping pointers with each other.

One day, Ip Man (Donnie Yen) is challenged by Master Liao (Chen Zhi Hui) in a closed match that ends with Master Liao losing. Sha Da Yuan (Wong You-Nam), who witnessed the entire fight while retrieving his kite from a tree, tells everyone about Master Liao's loss. Seeing it as a public humiliation, Master Liao gets into a dispute with Sha at the teahouse, forcing the local officer Inspector Li Zhao (Lam Ka-Tung) to intervene. Li scolds them for starting a commotion and mocks them by stating that in the new era, duels are meant to be fought with guns not fists. Ip Man proves him wrong by forcing the cylinder of his gun out with a single finger, calming things down.

John Hancock (Will Smith) is a drunkard with superhuman powers, including supersonic flight, invulnerability, immortality, and super-strength. Although he uses his powers to rescue people and stop criminals, his activities inadvertently cause millions of dollars in property damage due to his constant intoxication and cynical attitude. As a result, he is routinely jeered by the public and is considered a nuisance by the LAPD. Hancock frequently ignores court subpoenas and lawsuits from the city of Los Angeles to address the property damage he has caused.


When public relations spokesperson Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) departs from an unsuccessful meeting pitching his All-Heart logo for corporations that want to be seen as charitable, he becomes trapped on railroad tracks facing collision with an oncoming freight train. Hancock saves Ray's life at the cost of derailing the train and damaging other cars. Hancock is jeered by other drivers for causing more destruction, but Ray steps in and thanks Hancock for saving his life. Ray offers to improve Hancock's public image, and Hancock grudgingly accepts. Ray convinces Hancock to turn himself in for his outstanding subpoenas so they can show Los Angeles how much the city really needs Hancock when they miss him fighting crime and saving lives. When the crime rate does rise following his incarceration, Hancock is contacted by the Chief of Police to help stop a violent bank robbery. With a new costume from Ray, Hancock is released from jail and makes a triumphant return by rescuing a wounded police officer, and foiling the robbers lead by Red Parker (Eddie Marsan).

Hancock is applauded for handling the bank robbery and becomes popular once more, as Ray had predicted. He goes out to dinner with Ray and his wife Mary (Charlize Theron), with whom he reveals his apparent immortality and his amnesia from 80 years ago. After Hancock tucks a drunken Ray in bed, he discovers that Mary also has superhuman powers. He threatens to expose her unless she explains their origins. Mary eventually tells him that they have lived for 3,000 years with their powers, having been called gods and angels in their time. She also explains that they are the last of their kind and are meant to be paired. Mary does not tell Hancock the entire truth, and Hancock departs to tell Ray about the conversation. The exchange results in a battle between Hancock and Mary that takes them to downtown Los Angeles, causing significant destruction to the area. Ray, downtown in a business meeting, sees and recognizes his wife using abilities like Hancock's.

Hancock meets Ray and Mary back at their house. Mary explains that Hancock is technically her husband, explaining that they were built in twos, and that they are drawn to each other over time and great distances. When later intervening in a liquor store robbery, Hancock is shot and wounded. Visiting him at the Hospital, Mary explains that when a pair of immortals get close to each other physically, they begin to lose their powers. She also tells him that she and Hancock have been attacked as a couple many times throughout history, most recently being in an alley in Miami 80 years ago. His skull was fractured during the attack, causing amnesia. To save his life at the time, Mary deserted him, allowing him to recover from his injuries. After her explanation, the hospital is raided by the bank robber Red Parker and two other criminals that Hancock had encountered when imprisoned. Mary is shot trying to defend Hancock as he is able to stop the two men, but is further wounded in the process. When Red attempts to finish Hancock off, Ray comes to the rescue and stops the bank robber with a fire axe. With Mary dying, Hancock uses the last of his strength to flee from the hospital so that their parting would allow her to heal with her powers. Hancock is now living in New York City, working as a superhero there. As gratitude to Ray, Hancock paints Ray's All-Heart logo on the moon, giving worldwide advertisement to his cause.
